GPlus Media K.K. is a young, rapidly growing internet business powering several of Japan and China's best known international websites including GaijinPot.com, ChinaSplash.com, TokyoApartment.com, and Ecentral.jp, in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ). GPlusMedia is searching for an experienced hi-level talented web developer and architect to enhance and extend our existing web software portfolio, and develop new products and integrations. This position will have a fundamental and profound effect on the direction of GPlusMedia products and product strategies.

The architect will provide technical leadership and is responsible for the overall technical quality and project implementation, including specifying frameworks, and core technologies that lay the foundation for the software from the presentation layer to system level services.

The role will also involve defining the information flow, presentation, and underlying tools and technologies; working closely with management and project stakeholders to define requirements and implementation plans.

The architect will also have full or partial responsibility for project management, technical leadership and developers on each project, in a technical oversight role; helping to mentor resources and project leads in development methodologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Web Developer / Architect role provides the leadership, talent and drive to help GPlusMedia develop and deliver world-class software applications.

You will be responsible for:
Extend our core products and adding new features.

Prototype and develop new products and integrations.

Manage a small team of developers.

Work with the GPlusMedia management team to define new products, features and enhancements.

Ability to apply technology to solve business problems.

The ideal candidate is someone who is a strong architect and visionary, but loves to be in the details of the implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

BSc or MSc in computer science, engineering or related field preferred. Equivalent experience is acceptable, but strong CS fundamentals are a requirement
Strong experience in Web Development

Five or more years building significant web applications

Ability to push boundaries of what is possible with standards-based web 2.0 development utilizing UML, OO Design, XHTML, XML, XSL, CSS, JavaScript, SOAP, AJAX, DHTML, DOM and cross-browser standards

Expert knowledge and extensive experience with scaling large consumer web sites and/or web-enabled enterprise software solutions using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)

Solid understanding of security issues that pertain to web development

Experience with structured code libraries, MVC frameworks and open source projects such as Symfony, Subversion and Eclipse

Strong understanding of Information Architecture and content management/organization principles

Strong knowledge of web site management technologies including web servers/hosting, internet protocols and standards (FTP, SFTP, XML, SQL, LINUX, DHCP, DNS, etc.), analytics, site search, email campaign management, and e-commerce.

Excellent teamwork skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

In addition business level Japanese is a plus
